Now that we understand subnetting., it’s time to take a look at our RFP and do the ip re-addressing for castle rsen coffee.
So in our example they talk about, that in the central office are 200 humans. But 200 humans does not mean 200 IPs. We have to count higher here, let’s say each human has 5 devices. So we are at a count of 1000. Now we have to include all the servers, switches, access points, video surveillance etc. Let’s go with 4000 IPs for the central office.
For the fallout shelter we have 50 humans, so let’s go with 500 IPs per fallout shelter.
And the district shops have 15 humans, let’s go with 50 IPs per district shop.
Now we have to ask ourselves, which class our network should be in. Remember there are three classes:
- Class A: 10.0.0.0 /8
- Class B: 172.16.0.0 /16
- Class C: 192.168.0.0 /24
With a network this big, we should go with a Class A network here. So we pick the 10.0.0.0 /8 for our baseline.
So we learned we start with the biggest subnet first, so let’s do that.
